Boundary-pushing Sergei Diaghilev, famed leader of the scandalous Ballets Russes, asked a young Ravel to write the music to Daphnis et Chloé. Based on the ancient Greek novel of the same name, the ballet follows the love story of Daphnis, a young goatherd, and Chloé, a shepherdess.
