Annemarie Meijers
Cello
Annemarie has been a member of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra since 1994.
Her journey with the cello began quite by accident during a Saturday morning music class. Initially interested in learning the violin, she had to change plans when all the small violins for hire were gone! Fortunately, there was a room full of small cellos available, so she went home with one and is thrilled it worked out that way!
Annemarie earned a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Auckland University before moving to Wellington in the 1980s. Following a period of study in Boston, she began performing casual work with the NZSO. After acquiring a quality cello, she secured a position with the Orchestra.
A highlight of my time with the NZSO was the 2005 European tour, especially the Amsterdam Concertgebouw concert, not only because it’s such a famous hall but also because many of my Dutch family came to the concert!
In her free time, Annemarie enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and tending to her garden.
