Brigid O’Meeghan

Cello, Assistant Sub-Principal Emeritus

Brigid, currently the Assistant Sub-Principal Cello Emeritus in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, was raised and educated in Christchurch.

Throughout her professional career, Brigid has been extensively involved in youth music and community programmes both in New Zealand and abroad. She has worked with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Asian Youth Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, NZSO National Youth Orchestra, Dunedin Youth Orchestra, Wellington Youth Orchestra, Wellington Youth Sinfonietta, Schola Sinfonica, Kapiti Youth Orchestra, Hutt Valley Orchestra, and the Aroha String Quartet International Music Academy.

Brigid has served as an adjudicator for the NZCT Chamber Music Contest and was honoured with the Marie Vanderwart Memorial Award in 2016 for her outstanding service and commitment to nurturing a love for chamber music.

She is a former trustee of the Alex Lindsay Memorial Award and the Michael Monaghan Young Musicians Foundation and is a founding and current trustee of Music Futures, which supports young musicians in the Greater Wellington region.

Brigid enjoys participating in the NZSO's education and community engagement activities, helping to make a lasting impact on the next generation of young musicians.
