Elspeth Gray

Second Violin

Elspeth was born in Scotland and began violin lessons at the age of nine, shortly after moving to New Zealand.

Coincidentally, it was around this time that she decided to abandon her Glaswegian accent!

In 1988, Elspeth joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Trainees program, where she had the opportunity to study under Donald Armstrong, Associate Concertmaster of the NZSO.

After completing a music degree at Otago University, she joined the NZSO in 1992. She was also a member of the New Zealand Chamber Orchestra.

Elspeth currently plays an exquisite 1822 Gagliano violin.

With my twins now grown and independent, my hobbies include a lot of walking, especially with the family dog, and living the dream with my blended family of seven!
