Supported by Dr Hylton Le Grice CNZM, OBE & Ms Angela Lindsay

Born in Waipukurau and educated at the Royal College of Music in London, Gregory has led a varied life as soloist, concertmaster and conductor.

Gregory was a member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for ten years before becoming Concertmaster of the Orchestra of Scottish Ballet.

A growing interest in period instrument performance led to work and travel throughout Europe. As Co-Director of the Scottish Early Music Consort, he directed baroque operas and oratorios and performed music from the Renaissance and medieval periods.

Since joining the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Gregory has conducted and appeared as soloist with the Hawke’s Bay Orchestra, the Wellington Sinfonia, the Kāpiti Concert Orchestra and the Wellington Chamber Orchestra.

He was the Music Director of the Massey Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra and has conducted concerts and opera at the New Zealand School of Music. He also served as Music Director of the Wellington Youth Orchestra for eight years, a post he held to critical acclaim.

Gregory has an interesting collection of instruments, including a medieval fiddle, several baroque violins and a viola, all of which he enjoys playing.

As a teacher, he travels throughout New Zealand, regularly visiting Invercargill and Hawkes Bay. In his free time, he enjoys sailing, paddling, and fishing from the boats he has built.
