Robert Orr

Oboe, Section Principal

Currently serving as principal oboe, Robert has also held positions as principal cor anglais and associate principal oboe since joining the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in 1995.

Robert has also been a guest principal oboe for both the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

During his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he performed with the London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, and the City of London Sinfonia.

As an established recital artist, Robert has appeared for both the New Zealand International Festival of the Arts and the Christchurch Festival of the Arts. He has also toured for Chamber Music New Zealand, performing with pianist Richard Mapp and as a member of the Zephyr wind quintet.

As a soloist, he has appeared with the Southern Sinfonia, New Zealand Chamber Orchestra, and on several occasions with the NZSO.

In addition to his performing career, Robert shares his expertise and passion for music as an Artist Teacher at the New Zealand School of Music.
