Sebastian Dunn

Horn, Sub-Principal

Sebastian Dunn is the 4th Horn of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Prior to joining the Orchestra in 2020, Sebastian won a tutti horn position with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and freelanced regularly with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

Born into a family of musicians as the eldest of five boys, Sebastian began his musical journey at a young age. He commenced his formal training at the Sydney Conservatorium under Andrew Bain and, after graduating, moved to Melbourne to study at the Australian Academy of Music.

A highlight of Sebastian's education was earning a master's degree at Northwestern University in Chicago. During his time there, he studied with renowned pedagogue and soloist Gail Williams, Jonathan Boen of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and David Griffin, 4th Horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

When I'm not sitting in the orchestra or thinking about the French Horn, I can be found experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, tinkering on the guitar, or trying to perfect the 'art' that is pour over coffee.
