The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) is the national orchestra of New Zealand, recognized as an outstanding orchestra of international stature with a reputation for artistic excellence and a stellar roster of leading conductors and soloists. 

The NZSO has toured extensively nationally and internationally since it was founded in 1947.  Each year we perform in more than 20 towns and cities across New Zealand, as well as delivering a comprehensive education and community engagement programme, recordings and commercial projects.

The NZSO is now looking for a visionary, ambitious and inspiring Director of Artistic Planning who will define, lead and execute the NZSO’s artistic strategy through a diverse range of programming initiatives and creative partnerships.  Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for leadership of the artistic team (6.5 FTE) as well as overseeing all artistic programming, recordings and commercial projects. 

Experience in a senior artistic planning role within a professional orchestra is essential, as is an in-depth knowledge of repertoire and artists, demonstrable success in growing new and diverse audiences, team leadership and financial management.
