Alex Xuyao Bai is a Year 9 student at Dilworth School in Auckland. His current piano teacher is Stephen De Pledge. He embarked on his piano journey at the tender age of 5, taught by Tianhui Zhuang in California. He has also learnt from Able Zhu and Bryan Sayer in Auckland, Michael Endres in Christchurch, and Xin Wang in Germany. His musical odyssey has taken him to prestigious stages worldwide, including performances in the Great Hall of the Auckland Town Hall, appearances as a piano soloist in the Chinese Spring Festival Gala in China as the winner of NZ International Star Idol for Kids and Teens, a recital in Archen, Germany, and collaborations with the renowned New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Now, at 13, Alex has won top honours in international competitions in UK, USA, and Italy. His achievements, such as being the youngest semi-finalist in the Lewis Eady National Piano Competition and securing a Trinity LTCL distinction at 11, underscore his remarkable talent.

Alex's mastery extends beyond solo piano performances; he delights in chamber music with his friends at NZCT competitions and the retirement villages concerts, showcasing a harmonious blend of artistic collaboration. Beyond the piano, Alex is a versatile musician, mastering the clarinet and violin in his leisure time. A sports enthusiast, he excels in basketball and cross-country.
